What’s our goal in this project?

The early detection of treatable rare diseases.

CRINGENES’ goal is introducing a genomic newborn screening program that allows detecting treatable rare diseases before symptoms appear, improving infantile health from day one.

This study develops through a multidisciplinary, multicentric approach, involving more than 70 professionals and research centres in 9 autonomous communities. Genetic and metabolic analysis allows detection of more than 300 treatable rare diseases in newborns.

How does the study work?

A simple and safe process for early detection.

The study consists of 4 simple steps: from the signing of the informed consent to the genetic and metabolic analysis, with results being sent home if no anomalies are detected.

Do you have any questions?

Frequently Asked Questions:

1.Which genetic test is carried out?
Our DNA contains the information for our individual physical features, codified in genes. In this study genes are analysed through sequencing, which enables “reading” individual anomalies linked to diseases.
2.Is the test safe?
The test is safe since sample collection process is the same as for conventional metabolic newborn screening.
3.Which diseases are detected?
Hundreds of diseases linked to genes in the project's Gene List are detected. Only paediatric rare diseases, both critical and treatable, and with a strong Gene-Diseases association will be studied.
4.When will I get the results?
Result delivery time is between 1 and three months.
5.Will my information be protected?
Private data are protected at different levels, being pseudo-anonymized, with high traceability, restricted data access and high security storage.
6.How much will the test cost?
This test will be free for all volunteers.
